2026/10/10 23:10:21When it comes to TPV, the narrative of domestic substitution flows more smoothly than for many other materials. Behind it all are three forces—policy, demand, and technology—converging and working in tandem.

TPV thermoplastic vulcanizate granules
Thermoplastic vulcanizate (TPV) disperses rubber phases crosslinked at the micrometer scale within a plastic matrix; at room temperature it behaves like rubber, but can be remelted and reprocessed when heated, making it a lightweight, recyclable elastomer that replaces conventional crosslinked rubber. It has a density approximately 15% lower than EPDM and is rapidly replacing EPDM seals, wiper blades, and hoses.
In 2024, automobiles already account for 60% of domestic TPV consumption, and the sealing of battery packs in new-energy vehicles is driving additional growth. The industry forecasts that by 2025, China’s production capacity will reach 78,000 tonnes and output will be 65,000 tonnes. By 2031, capacity is expected to exceed 110,000 tonnes, with output reaching 93,000 tonnes, and the self-sufficiency rate will rise from 83% to 88%, making China the world’s largest TPV producer.
The demand for lightweighting in new-energy vehicles and for battery-pack sealing is surging; industry analysts predict that, after 2026, the amount of TPV used per vehicle could increase from 4.2kg to 6 kg. Wind power, medical applications, architectural doors and windows, and wearable devices are also emerging as the company’s second and third growth drivers.
green TPV containing at least 45% bio-based EPDM and featuring a 30% reduction in its carbon footprint, expected to be commercialized in 2027, with a target green TPV penetration rate of 25% by 2030.
The low-odor formulation keeps VOCs below 50 micrograms per gram, meeting the in-vehicle Class 3 standard, with industry-wide adoption expected by 2026. High-end and green development are no longer optional.
